Public Systems
When It's Useful
When a study needs to estimate how common an experience is across a population, not just describe it.
STRENGTHS
- Produces results that can be compared across neighbourhoods and years.
- Efficient for covering large samples.
- Pairs well with statistical modelling.
LIMITATIONS
- Fixed categories can miss experiences respondents can't easily name.
- Response rates skew toward some groups over others.
- Self-reported estimates of time and cost are often imprecise.
